Interested in becoming a Master Gardener?

The Master Gardener Program in Geauga County is a strong, thirteen-year old program which continues to grow. Its main purpose is to provide county residents with a competent, unbiased source of horticulture information, which may be consulted for answers to their plant or insect problems. The training program provides a balanced, integrated practical course in plant science. Core topics that are to be part of the training in every county are oriented to Extension and the Master Gardener Program:

      • Basic Plant Pathology
      • Plant Disease Diagnosis
      • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
      • Pesticide Use and Safety

      • Perennials
      • Bulbs
      • Trees and Shrubs
      • Home Vegetable Production
      • Home Fruit Production
      • Backyard Wildlife Management
      • Organic Gardening
      • Herbs

The added bonus is increased horticultural knowledge which class members learn for their own benefit.

The application deadline has passed for the 2008 class.  If you are interested in submitting an application to be considered for the 2009 class, please fill out the application (link below) and return to our office.  Classes are held on Thursdays 10am -3pm from February - April. The fee for the program is $175 (collected after accepted into the program). This will cover all books, materials, handouts, and travel costs for speakers. Upon completion of 50 hours of donated volunteer service, $50 will be refunded to you.
